原文作者简介:岑桑,1926年生,广东顺德人.党员.1949年毕业于中山大学社会学系.1950年参加工作,历任广州市影剧场公司副总经理,广州文化出版社编辑部副主任,广东人民出版社文艺编辑室副主任及主任、副总编辑、社长兼总编辑.《岭南文库》丛书执行副主编,中国作家协会广东分会副主席.1997年中国出版工作者协会首届伯乐奖.1942年开始发表作品.1962年加入中国作家协会.

《画杨桃》原文:

我读小学四年级的时候,父亲开始教我画画儿.他对我要求很严,经常叮嘱我:“你看见一件东西,是什么样的,就画成什么样,不要想当然,画走了样.”

有一次,学校上图画课,老师把一个杨桃摆在讲桌上,要同学们画.我的座位在前排靠边的地方,讲桌上杨桃的一端正对着我.我看到的杨桃根本不像平时看到的那样,而像是五个角的什么东西.我认认真真地看,老老实实地画,自己觉得画得很准确.

当我把这幅画儿交出去的时候,有几个同学看见了,他们哈哈大笑起来.

“杨桃是这个样子的吗?”

“倒不如说是五角星吧!”

老师看了看这幅画儿,走到我的座位坐下来,审视了一下讲桌上的杨桃,然后回到讲台,举起我的画儿问大家:“这幅画儿画得像不像?”

“不像!”

“它像什么?”

“像五角星!”

老师的神情变得严肃了.半晌,他又问道:“画杨桃画成了五角星,好笑吗?”

“好――笑!”有几个同学抢着答道,同时发出嘻嘻的笑声.

于是,老师请这几个同学轮流坐到我的座位上.他对第一个坐下的同学说:“现在你看看那杨桃,像你平时看到的杨桃吗?”

“不等像.”

“那么,像什么呢?”

“像等五等角星.”

“好,下一个.”

老师让这几个同学回到自己的座位上,然后和颜悦色地说:“提起杨桃,大家都很熟悉.但是,看的角度不同,杨桃的样子也就不一样,有时候看起来真像个五角星.因此,当我们看见别人把杨桃画成五角星的时候,不要忙着发笑,要看看人家是从什么角度看的.我们应该相信自己的眼睛,看到是什么样的就画成什么样.”

这位老师的话同我父亲讲的是那么相似.他们的教诲使我一生受用.

On Drawing Carambolas

When I was at grade four of primary school, my father began to teach me how to draw. He was strict to me and often told me: “You should draw what you see. Don’t draw according to your imagination, or you can’t draw it well.”

One day in the Art class, our teacher put a carambola on the desk and asked us to draw it on the paper. My seat was near the wall at the first row from where I could only see one end of the carambola. The carambola I saw was not like that I saw before at all, but like a pentagon. I drew it very carefully and I thought I had drawn it exactly.


When I handed in my painting, several clasates saw it and burst into laugh.

“Is this a carambola?”

“We’d better call it a pentagon!”

When the teacher saw my painting, he came to sit in my seat and had a look at the carambola on the teacher’s desk carefully. And then he went back to the platform and asked everybody: “Is this painting like a carambola?”

“No!”

“What is it like?”

“A pentagon!”

The teacher’s expression became serious. After a long while, he asked: “Is it funny to see a carambola drawn in the shape of a pentagon?”

“Yes, it’s funny!” Several clasates vied to reply quickly while laughing at me.

So, the teacher asked them to sit in my seat one by one. He told the first clasate: “Now look at the carambola, does it look like the ones you saw before?”

“No 等 .”

“Then like what?”

“Like 等 a 等 pentagon.”

“Ok, next.”

The teacher let these clasates go back to their own seat and said kindly: “We’re all familiar with carambolas. But a carambola looks different from different points of view. Sometimes, it really looks like a pentagon. So, when we see other people drawing a carambola into a pentagon, we should not laugh at it first, but find out which point of view they are looking from. We should believe our own eyes and draw whatever we see.”

The teacher’s words were so similar with my father’s. I’ve been enjoying the benefits of their instructions all my life.
